THURSDAY, JANUARY 16: Yeovil Town announced at the end of last week that, as expected, they had terminated striker Abdoulai Demba's contract with immediate effect and that he had returned to Belgium to continue his football career.

A press statement from Huish Park said the club had by 'mutual agreement' with Demba cancelled his contract and the player has rejoined KV Ostende.

Yeovil boss Gary Johnson said: "When we brought Demba over to Yeovil he was a bright, enthusiastic, intelligent person who was looking forward to his new life in England with his pregnant wife and family.

"He didn't quite reach the form that he should have done in the lead-up to the birth of his son Abdoulai Jnr because of the worries of childbirth. He was a player that was only able to show his best form when he was only thinking about football.

"We were a little bit worried about this, but we got over the problem and his wife gave birth to a lovely baby son.

"Everyone was delighted for him and his wife Ruth and over the next couple of weeks Demba was able to show the sort of form we all knew he was capable of culminating in his hat-trick against Southport at Huish Park on October 5."

But Johnson added: "Unfortunately his wife got very homesick, as young mothers do with young babies, and she wanted to be near her family who were still in Belgium.

"She decided that she would return to Belgium, but unfortunately that affected Demba in that he now could not see his young family.

"So I gave him a couple of weeks grace to sort himself out and as it was the transfer window he has now signed for a Division Two club in Belgium that is situated only 20 minutes from his home."

And Johnson said: "I wish him, his wife and family all the best for future as he was a lovely person and they are a lovely family. I am sure I will be visiting him if I go to Belgium and he will popping in to see me if he is ever back in England."
