Taunton Deane could become the country's top destination for equestrian holidays if a pilot project is successful.
The scheme is being set up to develop B&B, guesthouse and hotel accommodation for tourists wanting to bring their horses on holiday.
Comfortable stables, grazing land, parking for horseboxes and close access to off-road routes are essential factors in making the scheme attractive to equine enthusiasts.
An audit of horse-friendly accommodation has been carried out in Taunton Deane with plans to extend to the rest of the county if it proves successful.
Jane Pine, of Meare Farm B&B, near Stoke St Gregory, has been leading a steering group set up by the Somerset Levels and Moors Partnership which is investigating the potential for equestrian tourism.
Jane has been catering for horses and riders for the past three years.
