Truro's commercial boom shows no signs of weakening as more high street retailers have opened up in the city.
Comet's new £1.1 million store on Threemilestone Retail Park opened on Saturday with a festival of activity, including a live jazz band and product giveaways.
Manager Paull Wannell said: "We are delighted to welcome Truro's shoppers into our new Comet Destination store."
Music store HMV has also announced its decision to open up on Lemon Quay. The company will open up on two floors next to Marks and Spencer later in the year.
Andrew Jackson, a spokesman for the company, said: "HMV has long seen the city of Truro as a key area for them and the opportunities afforded at Lemon Quay make for exciting prospects for the company."
Siobhan Elvidge, of J Sainsbury Developers, the group responsible for development at Lemon Quay, said: "The scheme itself has seen a major investment for the area and has already provided the catalyst for other schemes in the city, such as Pydar Street."
