Truro retained their Jolly's Drinks Cornwall Premier League title on a glorious, sunlit, late summer's evening at St Buryan on Sunday, courtesy of four wides from county seamer Justin Stephens.

Truro reached the 200 mark in their innings to secure an eighth bonus point on the day It ensured they could not be caught by their nearest rivals and make Saturday's final game of the season game between the sides one now to be played for pride.

St Buryan, batting first, had made the large total of 290-7 dec in the 60th over. Bobby Dawson and Andy Procter got them off to a good start adding 81. Tom Sharp got rid of them both then Michael Munday took three middle order wickets and at 193-6 the innings looked in some control for the city club.

Mark George had other ideas blasting four sixes and 12 fours in an explosive innings of 86. Such was his dominance his partner, James Jeffery, contributed just a single to their 97 run seventh wicket partnership before the declaration came on George's dismissal in the final over.

For Truro, Sharp and Munday took three wickets apiece but the pace of Charlie Shreck was missed over the closing overs. Shreck was unavailable as he was en route to Yorkshire to play for Nottinghamshire Seconds, having taken 5 wickets in an innings for them against Sussex the previous week.

Truro had an early set back losing Jon Kent lbw without scoring. Neil Stoddard and Tom Sharp recovered well before Sharp, attempting a sharp single was run out from a direct hit by Tim Edwards at mid on. Stoddard kept one end solid and Ben Price was looking good until he was brilliantly caught by a diving Stephens at cover for 27 after Stoddard had been dismissed lbw for 60.

Steve Cockett and Julian Bose followed as the home team put on the pressure.

Adam Barber was again playing well and he found a good partner in Steve Gay as the pair saw their side past the 200 mark to wrap up the title. Barber was out for 35 in the last over. He was bowled by Peter George who was given the final over. The St Buryan stalwart followed up with a jig of delight worthy of any FA Cup Final winning goal.

The previous day Truro took 19 points against St Just, having lost a point due to a slow over rate.

After being put in Truro lost the county trio of Kent, Sharp and Price with only 71 on the board in 24 overs and St Just looked capable of another upset. However Stoddard and Adam Barber added a vital 116 for the fourth wicket. Barber made 75 and with Stoddard's 59 and a useful 38 not out at the end from Steve Cockett Truro were able to declare after 58 overs on 249 for 7.

Charlie Shreck had Neil Curnow lbw third ball then had Khan caught at long leg by Steve Gay. Gary Thomas played impressively and took on Shreck in one over hitting the quickie for two hooked sixes into the river followed by a couple of boundaries. Together with Peter Edwards, Thomas was playing St Just into a winning position at 146-2 with plenty of overs left.

Edwards then pulled Michael Munday to Ben Price at square leg. On reaching his century he fell to Sharp having hit three sixes and 13 fours in his 101. Shreck returned and the end came in quick time for St Just as he ran through the tail to end with 8 for 64 off 12.3 overs.

Truro are due to receive the trophy at their final game at St Buryan on Saturday.
