Truro Cricket Club have had a good week. Off the field the club pulled out all the stops to successfully stage Cornwall's C & G tie with Worcestershire at less then 24 hours' notice and on the playing side the Ist XI maintained their lead at the top of the Premier League on Saturday with a 72 run win at home to Camborne.

Truro didn't have it all their own way, though, as they were unable to gain maximum batting points losing their last nine wickets for just 54 runs. They had a good start through Neil Stoddard and Steve Cockett who added 39 before Cockett and Tom Sharp put on 73.

Sharp hit a six and seven fours in his 52 before being caught behind off Simon Johnson and Cockett went immediately after lbw to Paul Berryman for 41.

Berryman and Johnson then took control with only Jon Kent, Julian Bose and Matt Stearn getting double figures. Berryman took 5-66 off 18 overs and in a good spell Johnson took 3-36 off 16 overs to bowl the home side out for 166 in 49 overs.

Hopes of Camborne providing an upset were very quickly subdued when Charlie Shreck trapped Kevin Roberts lbw to the first ball of the innings. Worse was to follow as the strike bowler dismissed Andy Gill and Daniel Mitchell with only five on the board.

Skipper Peter Davey and Seb Phelps rebuilt the innings but at 34 young Phelps became Shreck's fourth victim. Nigel Endean then gave his skipper support as Camborne reached 80-4, but their dismissals, with the score at 80, signalled a speedy end to proceedings.

Leg spinner Michael Munday enjoyed himself bowling Davey for 37 then wrapping up the tail to end with 4-22. Shreck took 4-30 and Matt Stearn weighed in with the wickets of Endean and Berryman as Camborne were bowled out in the 29th over.

Truro's top of the table clash at St Buryan was postponed on Monday due to the Cornwall game in Berkshire.

It appears that it will be rescheduled for a mid week date in June with Sunday's being tied up with County fixtures.

On Saturday Falmouth are the visitors to Truro for the second time this year with Camborne visiting Mullion.
