HARROW HILL 2 PENRYN ATHLETIC 5 - MAKING their debut in the FA Carlsberg Vase, Penryn Athletic pulled off a stunning victory away to Harrow Hill in Gloucestershire on Saturday.

The Hellenic League division one (West) side were hot favourites to win this tie and after 36 minutes appeared to confirming the prediction, but in an amazing turn around Athletic overpowered their unbeaten opponents.

It proved to be something of a strange encounter all round with Athletic always looking the more polished and forceful side, but finding themselves trailing 2-0 against the run of play.

In the early stages Athletic look quite busy and created several openings with Steve Rowson stabbing a cross from Jamie Thirkle wide of the post and Richard Young and Thirkle testing goalkeeper Andy Reid.

Athletic had a good chance to open the scoring from a counter attack, but Matt Drummond failed to make the most of it by shooting tamely at Reid.

Having dominated possession, Penryn were stunned when they found themselves a goal down after 36 minutes. Bob Clarke threaded the ball through to Clayton Hook who laid the ball back into Clarke's path to curl a shot from the edge of the box just inside the post with a measured finish.

Six minutes later Athletic were on the end of another shock when a pass came off the head of Matt Salmon to wrong foot the visiting defence and allow Eddie Weyman to break clear and beat Andy Avery from close range.
