Saturday's 34-15 victory at home against Harrogate, who lost for the third time, lifts Redruth into fifth place in National Division Two.

The match was honoured by the visit of two of the RFU's top officials. Chief executive Francis Baron and Malcolm Thomas, who is chairman of the management board, watched the game with Cornwall RFU officers Peter Michell, Peter James, Richard Simons and Alan Mitchell and outstanding former Redruth players Richard Sharp and Bonzo Johns.

For Reds player Paul Thirlby, wearing the Number 10 jersey, it was a day to remember as he scored 24 points.

Playing towards the scoreboard the home side were hit by an early injury to second row player Richard Carroll but fortunately for the Reds he was soon on his feet.

It was Dan Goodwin who spearheaded the Reds' first attack in the fifth minute.

Two minutes later, referee Steve Harland awarded the Reds a penalty which Thirlby slotted between the posts,

Harrogate took play to the Reds territory with fly-half Mike Aspinal beating the defence for the first try of the match which was converted by centre Mark Pease.

Reds were on the back foot just four minutes later as the visitors scored a try by Pease who missed the conversion.

Two minutes later, Thirlby kicked a penalty for the the home side. After 20 minutes, Reds were ahead by a point (13-12), after pressure by the forwards set up Thirlby for a try which he also converted.
