TRURO CITY 3 LAUNCESTON 1 - TRURO City have finally found the magic winning formula after defeating Launceston 3-1 in a first qualifying round of the FA Vase.
For an hour the performance was similar to those that had gone before this season, but once they had regained the lead they always looked the more likely winners.
City included defender Mike Cain in the line-up for his first game since transferring from Penryn Athletic and his presence proved a much-needed boost to what has until now been just a suspect defence.
He went on to have an outstanding game, but there were also five-star performances from Jake Ash and Mike Roberts.
There was little to choose between the sides in the opening stages with City's football just a little nervous, but after 18 minutes the home side took the lead when Paul Wolstencroft gained possession from a pass by Ash and went round a defender before curling a superb low drive into the far corner of the net.
The goal appeared to galvanise City into a much more cohesive unit, but the visitors had their moments with a cross into the box being just headed over the bar by the unmarked Liam Tilly.
His brother, Dan, also had a half chance when City failed to clear the ball, but he hit his shot low and hard past the post with Andy Butcher stranded.
