In the early hours of Saturday morning, 20 teams of cyclists numbering 80 in total, set off on a journey which soon became known as Square to Square.

The cyclists left Falmouth's events square on route for Trafalgar Square in London on what is called the Pickle Challenge, linked to the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar, raising money for the maritime charity Seafarers UK.

The route taken was that of Lt Laponetiere, who first carried the news of Nelson's death from Falmouth to London.

On Saturday, the teams of four in relay mode, one from the Falmouth area, planned to complete the route in 37 hours, the same time in which it took Lt Laponetiere.

Each team has already raised £2,500 for the charity and on arrival at Trafalgar Square were presented with copies of the original Trafalgar Dispatch.

Seafarers UK works on behalf of all seafarers and has considerable support in Falmouth and the rest of Cornwall.

On Friday, before the start of the trip, those taking part met up at the maritime museum in Falmouth.

A team from Falmouth, Triskel Marine, did very well finishing in the top three and being awarded best overall team on all four legs of the ride.
