Youths are terrorising an area of Helston following a boom in the latest craze of "Mini Motos".

Groups of five or six teenagers at a time are taking these so-called mini motorcycles to the former Arlington Garage site, on Penzance Road, to ride them almost every evening and also on Sunday afternoons.

In addition to the noise, nearby residents have claimed there is increasingly aggressive behaviour from the youths, who they say are fuelled by alcohol and cannabis.

Nigel Riding, who lives just up from the site, near the Pendle Funeral Directors, said: "I've been physically threatened and my eight-year-old son has been physically threatened. I've seen drug abuse and alcohol. I've seen petrol left in the road where they've been filling these things up. It's got to the point where my kids are afraid of going back to the house."

He said on one occasion the youths had even attempted to run him over in front of his son, Jake.

"My son had been riding his bike down there and as I was coming back from fetching him home one of the lads on the bikes came up and I gestured to him to slow down, which he did. As I was talking to him his mates came towards me and tried to catch the back of me. I only jumped out the way because I heard them. That was the worst we've had down there," added Mr Riding.

On that occasion the police arrived and moved them on, after Mr Riding rang 999, but within ten minutes the group had returned to the site.
