TAUNTON Deane Council has clamped down on parking fines better than any local authority in the county.
Joining forces with CCS Enforcement Services, the Parking Management Team has cleared a three-year backlog of unpaid fines - urging the district's motorists to adopt a more considerate attitude to parking.
Under the scheme the council has given the time-consuming collection of fines to CCS to develop a more effective method of catching fine-dodgers.
Performance figures from other schemes in the country suggest the cost effectiveness of the new measure is counted when collection of the final 20% of outstanding fines is made.
