CAMBORNE School of mines has received a record number of applications for the next academic year with more than a 100 per cent increase from last year.
Course leaders from the school say there has been a 50 per cent increase in applications for undergraduate courses in geology, mining engineering and renewable energy generally and there has been a 100 per cent increase in applications for mining engineering.
Staff at the college say the increase is due to the schools lower fees because Cornwall has Objective One Status and a shortage of miners world-wide.
