Cornwall Clubs XV 22pts Naval Air Command 19pts - In their first match of the season the Cornwall Clubs XV hosted the Naval Air Command at St Austell RFC in what turned out to be an exciting contest.

The hosts were slow to settle and kicked away too much first half possession but took control after the break to run out deserved winners, albeit by a narrow margin.

In the opening exchanges the visitors applied concerted pressure and the home defence was breached when flanker Paul Booth broke through to touch down near the posts. Full-back Craig Moffatt converted for a sevenpoint lead in as many minutes.

Play went from end to end until, on 14 minutes, the visitors broke through again and wing Chris Pellow gathered a loose ball to cross wide on the left.

On the stroke of half time, the Naval Air Command attacked from a five-metre scrum and fly-half Guy Pallett fooled the defence and ghosted through to touch down under the posts. Moffatt kicked the goal for an interval score of 0-19. The home players started the second half determined to redress the balance and dominated much of the play with fly-half Rob Ley orchestrating the events and young centre Rob Allen featuring strongly.
