SOMERSET county Council and the Devon Fire and Rescue Authority have agreed to investigate a proposed merger of Somerset and Devon's fire brigades.
Previous inspections at Somerset Fire Brigade have identified it is working to capacity and is struggling to modernise.
Devon's taxpayers are paying out £4 more per head for fire services, compared to Somerset.
