ONE of the victims of the multi-vehicle pile up on the Penryn by-pass last year is planning to sue the man responsible for the horrific crash which left her with life changing injuries.

Pat Fleck, 59, of Lamb's Lane Falmouth, told this week of how her life was changed forever by the accident following the conviction of 35-year-old Jonathan Nelson for causing the death by dangerous driving.

Nelson, of Marlborough Road, Falmouth, pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Court to causing the death of 65-year-old John Harwood from Gloucester and will be sentenced on February 16.

Mrs Fleck was one of four other people, including a couple from Mabe, seriously injured in the five vehicle smash on the A39 on June 17 last year. Firefighters battled to extract Mrs Fleck from her mangled Astra before she was taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital. There surgeons fought to save her shattered right arm and treat other serious injuries.

She told the Packet this week that Nelson may have totally changed her life but he wasn't going to ruin it. "I am pleased that he has pleaded guilty," she said. "I have lost the use of my right arm from the shoulder to the elbow and I have limited use from the elbow to my fingers and I can't make a fist."
