FLAMING beacons will mark the golden jubilee of the Quantock Hills as Britain's first area of outstanding natural beauty on May 9.
Altogether, 50 events are planned throughout 2006 to mark the anniversary, including guided walks, talks with guest speakers, a food festival, archaeological events, art exhibitions and family fun days.
The Quantock Hills, which boast stunning views and spectacular terrain stretching north west to the West Somerset coastline at West Quantoxhead, attract half a million visits every year.
They were designated an AONB on May 9, 1956, by the Government, which recognised the national importance of the landscape.
