THE husband of a sex attack victim told this week of her terrifying ordeal.

The 23-year-old woman, who has asked not to be identified, was jumped on from behind in a quiet area of Taunton last Friday night.

She was walking home to Galmington at around 9.30pm after having a few drinks in town with a friend when the man struck in leafy Parkfield Road.

He came at her from behind and tried to start a conversation, but when she ignored him he grabbed her in a headlock, kicked her legs out from under her and then tried to attack her.

The woman's husband told the County Gazette: "When she was on the ground he tried to put his hands down her clothes.

"Thankfully, because she'd had a few drinks she had the courage to fight him off and get away, but she was very scared."

When the woman got home she called the police to report the incident, but because she was unable to give a description of her attacker they do not hold out much hope of catching him.

A spokesman said: "We received a call at 10.20pm on Friday night following an assault on a woman in Parkfield Road.

"The man grabbed the woman around the neck before taking out her legs so she fell to the floor. The woman managed to escape."

Police are appealing for anyone in the area at the time of the assault to come forward.

They are also warning women not to walk home alone or to at least ensure that they stick to well-lit areas.

The victim's husband said: "My wife was very shaken by the incident, but glad that she fought back.

"We just want other people to know it happened to warn them they have to be on their guard.

"Don't walk home alone at night wherever possible because this incident happened somewhere you would never have expected.

"We just hope people take notice of this."
