A 50-ACRE multi-million pound business park planned for Wellington has received the go ahead from Taunton Deane Council.

Plans for the development, which will transform land at Chelston House Farm into one of Wellington's biggest developments in history, were approved at a planning meeting last week.

The site will include a car showroom, a motel, a family pub, and a veterinary surgery and will also have a regional distribution depot, warehouses, and industrial units.

It is hoped the development will boost the local economy by bringing hundreds of new jobs to the area.

The plans for the 50-acre site behind Chelston House Farm were submitted by Summerfield Ltd who have been working to develop the area around the motorway junction for 15 years after getting planning permission for the original Chelston Business Park.

Chairman and chief executive of Summerfield Developments, Richard Lloyd said: "We are very pleased with the decision to grant planning consent for the new Business Park at Chelston which will be another major economic venture within Taunton Deane.

"We very much appreciate the support from officers, councillors and members of the planning committee of Taunton Deane and Wellington Town Council in this significant economic generator.

"As we have seen from our other development at Chelston, a business park of this calibre will attract both local and national companies to locate here and invest in the local economy."

Some conditions have been attached to the initial planning permission including providing adequate transport links.

The agreement will be signed within the next two weeks.
