SIMULATORS are essential to radiotherapy treatment planning as they can precisely locate the area needed to be treated by radiotherapy, avoiding any unnecessary exposure of healthy tissue to radiation.

The CT scanner/simulator will be used to identify the size and location of a tumour in 3D.

By combining the scanner with a simulator, it allows patients to be planned in for simple of complex treatments.

The simulator/scanner then scans people in one continuous spiral, like a corkscrew, rather than individual slices.

This greatly reduces the risk of the size of the tumour being underestimated, and allows its exact size and location to be pinpointed.
