THE firm behind a building project at Norton Manor Camp has won a gold award for considerate construction.

The scheme for three motor workshops the Royal Marines 40 Commando base by Debut Services (South West) Ltd was also one of 17 runners up for the title of UK’s Most Considerate Site 2010.

Both awards were made as part of the Considerate Constructors Scheme 2010 National Site Awards.

The accolades are designed to recognise and reward those who have demonstrated high levels of performance, and the Norton Manor site is one of only 63 nationwide to receive a prestigious Gold Site Award.

In the citation, the scheme’s monitor noted the way in which the sensitive and security-conscious needs of a military camp had been addressed.

In consideration for returning personnel, the phasing of works was made flexible and often actioned out of sequence to avoid noise disturbance.

Air traffic movements in the vicinity were taken into account and a family day medals parade was observed by silent operations.

Exceptional measures were in place to ensure the uninterrupted enjoyment of a summer ball held for soldiers on leave from Afghanistan. Commendable efforts were also made to participate in the surrounding community and local suppliers were used whenever possible.
