Here's the latest from the Terrace healthcare centre in Taunton.

WE all look forward to holidays. Or do we?

Time together is precious. Of course it is. But sadly summer isn’t all about sun, sand and seaside, ice-creams and exotic food, sunsets, sunbathing and afternoon snoozes.

The school holidays can also bring extra pressure and an even longer list of things to do. It’s no surprise that people say they need a break after a holiday.

Do weeks of entertaining the children take their toll? Does pandering to a partner at a loose end fill you with trepidation? Are you the person who ends up holding the fort at work while everyone else seems to be heading off overseas? Or are you troubled by a trauma that seems even bigger than ever when it appears that the rest of the world is having time off?

When you don’t seem to have a single moment to yourself, that’s when you need it most. Is it really too much to ask to treat yourself to one quiet hour that’s all about you?

Did you know that if you look at the hits on Google, there are a third more searches for ‘counselling’ and ‘psychotherapy’ in September than at any other time of year? I don’t claim to know the reason why but I certainly get a sense that all is not necessarily rosy in August! Whatever your particular take on the holiday season is, it’s okay to admit that we can end up frayed at the edges and exhausted.

So, it’s perhaps more important than ever that we take time out to look after ourselves. Perhaps an hour’s massage once a week is all the time you need to yourself. Or maybe you know that a problem shared is a problem halved, and the chance to talk things through might get you through the holiday weeks ahead.

The Terrace stays open throughout the summer for all these reasons and more – to look after the people who look after everyone else. Check out below what’s on offer in August at Taunton’s peaceful but professional centre for health and healing, where everyone and anyone is invited into our open minds, warm hearts and healing hands.
