THE best set of results in the history of Heathfield Community School, Monkton Heathfield, is making for a day of celebration today.

Figures from the school show that 97% of students gained five or more GCSE passes (A*-G), with 89% achieving five or more A*-C grades. The Government’s benchmark figure – the number of pupils gaining five or more A*-C grades including English and Maths was 70%.

Head teacher Elliott Furneaux said: “To be honest, these results have again far exceeded our highest expectations.

“To be 20% above our highest Department for Education target is an extraordinary achievement. We are particularly pleased that 88% of our boys achieved five A*-C grades, against 90% for the girls, with more of our highest academic achievers being boys for the first time, bucking the trend nationally.”

The jewel in the crown of the results was the achievement of student Chris Nation who achieved a remarkable 12A*s and four As, while Toby Willcocks notched up 11A*s and four As.

Mr Furneaux added: “We have also gained our highest ever average points score per student which shows how incredibly hardworking the year-group was – their families should be very proud of them. “I know the students would like us to thank the extraordinary commitment of our teachers and all the staff who have worked with them at primary and secondary level over the last 11 years.”
