DIPLOMAT Sir Peter Westmacott gave an insight into his career at the John Rae Society Lecture, at Taunton School.
Sir Peter pointed out that although the Coalition has decided that more time should be spent promoting trade, he had been doing that for years – he assisted ten blue chip companies whilst Ambassador to Turkey.
On the subject of Turkey, he pointed out that it is one of the few areas where Britain and France disagree – we want it to join the European Union, while France is less keen.
Sir Peter outlined the recent close relationship between Britain and France, who are working together on a number of international projects.
