RICHARD Huish College in Taunton marked the opening of a new building for the start of the new academic year with a formal celebration and address by the college’s long standing vice principal, Tim Duffen.

The Juniper Building – like other buildings at the campus, named after a native tree - houses music technology, media studies, film studies and photography and has been fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.

Joining the celebration were two former students who are achieving their own successes in the media, film and music industry; Josh Randall, who is a full-time freelance filmmaker, is experienced in producing, directing and camera-operating. He has worked on projects including Lark Rise to Candleford and co-founded the Young People’s Film Council.

Also at the event was ex-student Sam Jones, an audio designer who has worked as an assistant audio engineer on projects such as Casino Royale and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Principal Peter Avery said: “The Juniper building is the sixth building we have completed in the last decade, keeping pace with growing student numbers and the college’s pursuit of excellence. All our buildings are focussed on the provision of outstanding teaching and learning spaces, and this one sets a new standard.”
