PUPILS and teachers at Sampford Arundel Primary School got a touch of la dolce vita when the school turned Italian for a day.
For their Italian day they studied topics like the waterways of Venice; the Vesuvius volcano that devastated Pompeii; Italian geography and climate.
They also learnt Italian songs and instead of their usual school dinners to cook and eat a delicious four Mediterranean meal.
Head teacher Eddie East said: “Not only did the children learn more about a fascinating culture in the classroom, they literally got a taste of Italian life at lunchtime.
“It brought the subject to life and the enthusiasm was a delight.
“It’s the sort of thing small schools like Sampford Arundel do really well.
“Because it’s that bit easier to get everyone involved students can be given a framework and make it into an event they remember forever.”
The school is already planning a Korean day next term, including a lesson from a taekwondo expert, while international links have been made with schools around the world.
