HARVEST came early for Dunster First School pupils last Friday as the school staged its harvest service in St George's Church.

All 140 pupils took part in the service led by Alison Mothersdale and sang a variety of songs accompanied by pianist Peter Cartwright, including 'In the Autumn', 'Pears and Apples', 'Michaelmas Daisies' and 'Look for Signs that Summer's Done'.

In-between songs the children showed off some of their harvest pictures, while pupils from Year 2 and Year 3 read out harvest poems.

The children brought a variety of harvest gifts to the church and a collection at the end of the service raised £215 for the Toby Rundle Lifeboat Appeal fund, as Toby was a former pupil at Dunster First School.

The pupils were joined in the church by the children and staff of Dunster Pre-School, along with parents, carers, grandparents and friends of the school.

Headteacher Peter Hoyland said: “It was wonderful to see so many parents, carers, grandparents, friends of the school and members of the local community at our service.

“We were delighted with the amount of food that we collected for Bampton Court and the incredible £215 that was raised for the Toby Rundle Lifeboat Appeal.

“Thank you to the children and staff for working so hard over the last few weeks to prepare everything for the service.”
