A NEW website on the election of Avon and Somerset's first ever Police and Crime Commissioner has been launched.
The website - click on the link on this story - developed by Avon and Somerset Police Authority offers residents details on the role and responsibilities of the new commissioner and information for potential candidates.
A Police and Crime Commissioner will be accountable for how crime is tackled in each police force area and on November 15 residents across the country (except London) will go to the polls to appoint a Commissioner.
The briefings for candidates thinking of standing as a PCC in Avon and Somerset discuss police finances, performance and collaboration.
It also includes information from local authority Community Safety Partnerships, as the new Commissioner will have a wider responsibility for community safety and criminal justice within Avon and Somerset.
There is also a paper on the Police and Crime Panel, who will be responsible for holding the PCC to account.
The arrival of a PCC in Avon and Somerset will mark the end of the Police Authority, with the PCC taking over the role on November 22, ensuring that the police force are providing an efficient and effective service on behalf of the public.
