A SUSPECTED abandoned rabbit was found roaming around Wellington last week.
The black and white lop eared male was found at the town’s monument last Sunday (March 11) by a member of the public.
It is feared that the rabbit has been kept in a ‘filthy hutch’ as its bottom was caked in faeces and he had an open sore on his rump, an RSPCA spokesperson said.
Inspector Sue Dobson, who is investigating, said; "It is possible that this rabbit escaped from a hutch but it is probably more likely that he was deliberately abandoned by whoever allowed him to get into this inexcusable state.
"Either way we are keen to trace the owner of this animal, as it is likely that his injuries were caused by fighting with another rabbit and that animal may be in need of veterinary help that this creature had clearly been denied.
