THE care, guidance and support to pupils at Curry Mallet Primary School has been deemed "outstanding" in an Ofsted report.

Inspectors say the school has many strengths, with good teaching - sometimes very good - throughout.

They praised the school for introducing a number of strategies to encourage children to adopt healthy lifestyles, including sporting opportunities, a free fruit and veg scheme, a healthy tuck shop and the availability of water bottles at all times.

The way pupils with learning difficulties and disabilities make progress was classed as exceptionally and consistently high, as were pupils' behaviour, how they enjoy their education and the way they are cared for, guided and supported.

The inspector told the pupils: "I was very impressed with how hard you work and how well you behave in lessons.

"There is a lovely atmosphere in the school and the adults care for you all really well."

Curry Mallet head teacher Alison Whitman said: "I'm thrilled that the hard work and enthusiasm of the adults and children at the school have been recognised in this way.

"We are very much a family school in which all members of the community care for and support each other while learning together."
