STAFF at HMV in Taunton town centre had to be evacuated when a fire broke out in the store.

Firefighters cordoned off part of the Parade shortly after 9am this morning (June 11). Nobody was injured in the incident.

A faulty light fitting "popped" around an hour after being switched on by staff.

Bill Williams, incident commander for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, told the County Gazette: "The light fitting popped and started the fire.

"No people were injured and no products were damaged but there is light smoke damage."
