PROUD teachers and youngsters are celebrating this week after learning Ofsted inspectors have declared their Burrowbridge school to have "some outstanding features".

The glowing report came after the watchdog's Malcolm Greenhalgh looked around Burrowbridge Primary School on September 20.

In his letter to parents and pupils he described the faculty, which only has 30 on the register, as one providing "good quality education".

The news was welcomed by head teacher Michael Amos, who told the County Gazette why he thought the inspection had been so successful.

"We do give the pupils a great deal of time but also we listen to them too," he said.

"We get the best out them because of that - it is not just one-way communication.

"We are outstanding in terms of pupil care and guidance. For example last year a parent was talking to me and I was in the middle of a class. Without saying a word, a child just stood up and carrying on talking at the whiteboard for me."

In the letter to parents and pupils, Ofsted inspector Mr Greenhalgh said he was particularly impressed with the way the school respected youngster as individuals.

"I am delighted to be able to say to you that yours is a good school with some outstanding features," it read.

"It was very pleasing to hear that you do not use put downs to other children, enabling each one of you to be confident in yourselves as people, so that you learn well and make good progress in your reading, writing and mathematics skills. You, your parents and the staff at the school are rightly proud of the school's achievements.

"The school works hard to ensure you are safe, healthy and able to contribute to how well you do. It provides good teaching and a good balance of subjects for you to learn and gives you plenty of opportunities to learn outside lessons. Your head teacher, staff and governors are dedicated to ensuring you get a good start in life and I know they are very proud of the way you respond to the challenges they place before you."
