DEVON County Council's highways teams are responding to flooding problems on roads across the county.

Surface water and flooding have been reported on a number of roads after heavy rainfall, and further intense showers are expected throughout this afternoon and this evening.

Debris and trees are being cleared from roads, and teams are also scouting the network for further problems.

The county council is warning of potential problems across the county, particularly on minor roads.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council cabinet member for Highway Management and Flood Prevention, said: “Our teams are working around the county in difficult conditions.

"The heavy rain is causing disruption across the county and road users are advised to take extra care, stick to main roads where possible, not to drive through floodwater and not to drive through road closures.

“We are targeting safety issues in locations where there are problems which may affect properties and businesses.

"We are also prioritising the main A and B roads on our primary network and are proactively dealing with areas where there are known issues.”

The County Council is dealing with flooding issues on the A376 at Clyst St Mary, between Marine camp and Nutwell Lodge, and also near the Sadlers Arms.

Marsh Barton Road under Railway Bridge in Exeter is closed, but surface water issues at Countess Wear roundabout have been cleared.

The A375 is closed at Sidbury due to flooding and a landslip.

There is also flooding on the A3052 between Newton Poppleford and Harpford and also at Boshill Cross, Barrack Road in Ottery St Mary, A399 at Brayford, A379 East Charleton, and A381 towards Salcombe There is a reported hole in the road near the village hall in Lee Bay and the B3227 Mill on the Mole is closed as the River Mole has burst its banks.

The Environment Agency has Flood Warnings in place on a number of rivers across the county.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning that Southwesterly winds are forecast to increase overnight into Tuesday morning, with gusts of 50mph-60 mph in coastal areas.
