SINGER Johnny Nash - who achieved worldwide fame for his hit song I Can See Clearly Now - has passed away, aged 80.

The star passed away due to natural causes at his home on Tuesday (October 6), his family said.

Born in Houston, Nash pursued a reggae style in his pop music, achieving most notable success with the 1972 hit I Can See Clearly Now, which sold more than 1 million copies around the world.

He is survived by his wife, Carli, and son, John.
