ITV hopeful of Sir Tom Jones returning to The Voice

Bosses remain hopeful that a popular TV star will return to a long-standing ITV show amid rumours of his departure.

Sir Tom Jones has been part of The Voice, appearing as an on-off coach since its premiere in 2012.

However, fears were sparked that the star, known for 1960s anthems such as It’s Not Unusual and What’s New Pussycat?, after reports that he would be "dropped" from the 2027 series.

Is Tom Jones leaving The Voice?

Despite reports, ITV bosses are said to be in talks with the star and are optimistic for his return.

An ITV source told Newsquest: "ITV absolutely loves working with Sir Tom.

"They are in talks with him and are hopeful he will return to the series."

In the most recent series, Sir Tom appeared alongside coaches Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones of McFly, US rapper Will.i.am, and Destiny’s Child star Kelly Rowland.

Throughout his time on the show, he has mentored three winners: Leanne Mitchell in series one, Ruti Olajugbagbe in series seven, and Anthonia Edwards in series 11.

Sir Tom’s music career spans more than 60 years and includes three UK number one singles and four chart-topping albums.

He has worked alongside a wide range of fellow coaches on the show, including Jessie J, Olly Murs, Kylie Minogue, and Rita Ora.

The veteran performer has also earned major honours, including a Grammy, two Brit Awards, and an Ivor Novello Award.

In 2006, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his services to music.

Who is rumoured to be replacing Tom Jones on The Voice?

If Sir Tom were to step down as a coach, there are rumoured plans for the singer to be involved at some point in a “different capacity”, according to The Sun.

The publisher reports that rapper Aitch is set to replace McFly duo Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher for the 2027 series, who are leaving the show.

They note that former Girls Aloud singer Cheryl is also returning to TV to work as a coach, while rapper will.i.am is returning with Kelly Rowland.

A source told the paper: "Everyone loves Sir Tom but there was a feeling that the upcoming series needed a major refresh.

"With Aitch and Cheryl coming on board and Kelly returning with will.i.am, there just wasn’t a seat going.
