An EastEnders star has opened up about the two miscarriages she had before her children were born.
Lacey Turner, known for playing Stacey Slater, has just started her stint on the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing and opened up about the emotional time in a new interview.
The actress will compete in the show alongside professional dancer Vito Coppola.
Speaking to Prima magazine, Turner said she experienced one of her two miscarriages on set at EastEnders and admits that she “just carried on” at the time, which is “quite sad” to look back on and see the way she reacted.
However, she said she was supported during the upsetting time, reports The Sun: “I had two miscarriages before my children were born.
“I had a miscarriage on the set of EastEnders.
“I had become so matter of fact about the subject because I just carried on.
“Looking back, it’s quite sad to know I reacted in such a way.
“Everyone was so supportive when I told them, and now, I’ve learned to be more in tune and speak up.”
Also in the interview, the actress said she is “nervous” to join the Strictly cast as viewers and people on the show will “see more of Lacey”.
She said she can’t hide behind a character in this role: “I’m nervous for people to see more of Lacey.
“I’m opening myself up to people criticising me, not just my character.
“I’m quite terrified of the whole thing, and while I tap-danced when I was younger, this is very different.
“I am a bit scared of letting people in, but you can’t live your life in fear.”
She added: “I’m nearly 40 and I want to start doing things I’m scared of.
“I want to go out of my comfort zone and push myself to see what I’m capable of.”
At 16 years old, Lacey Turner joined EastEnders in 2004 but left six years after her debut before returning in 2014.
She stayed on the show until her departure in 2025, when Stacey Slater left to live in Brazil, but a return is on the cards.
On her exit, an EastEnders spokeswoman said to The Sun: “We can confirm that Lacey will be off-screen later this year, but there is plenty of more drama to come beforehand”.
They added that they “will look forward to planning Stacey’s return when Lacey decides the time is right.”
Turner confirmed that now is “just not the right time” to return to EastEnders but that she hopes to go back at some point.
