This City is Ours is back for series 2, with James Nelson-Joyce leading the cast.
The first series centred around Liverpudlian crime boss Ronnie Phelan, played by Sean Bean.
His desire to retire from criminal life, after one last major drug deal, triggers an intense power struggle between his long-time right-hand man, Michael Kavanagh (Nelson-Joyce), and Phelan's impetuous son Jamie (Jack McMullen).
Now, the popular BBC show is back for a second series this weekend, and has already been renewed for a third.
A synopsis for series two reads: "Picking up from where things were left at the end of series one, Michael and Diana are more in love than ever when they arrive in their Spanish Happy Town.
"However, they are soon dragged back into the world of crime to answer questions around Ricardo’s death, and there’s a new Colombian to deal with now - Felipe.
"In Liverpool, a coup within the Phelan firm sends the business into disarray, and to make matters worse, there’s a new threat in town - Ozzie Thompson.
"A newly released old-school gangster from Ronnie’s past, he is out looking for compensation or revenge, whichever comes first.
"Michael keeps a low profile as his investigation into Ricardo’s murder leads him into difficult territory, with no choice but to devise a plan that hinges on Diana’s cooperation, testing her loyalties more than ever before.
"As Banksey’s son Freddie forms an unlikely friendship with Ozzie and the Phelans begin exploring business opportunities with a new supplier, more enemies lurk in the shadows.
"Michael may have no choice but to once again join forces with the Phelans, but that goes against everything he has promised to Diana.
"Will Michael be able to keep the love of his life if he can’t escape his past?"

There are many returning stars and some new faces for series 2 of the BBC drama.
James Nelson-Joyce, who won the Best Breakthrough Talent Award at the RTS North West Awards 2025 for his role in series 2, returns as Michael Kavanagh, alongside Hannah Onslow as Diana Williams, Michael’s partner.

This City Is Ours renewed for series 3
The BBC confirmed this week that This City is Ours has been commissioned for a third series ahead of series two launching.
On the commission of series three, Stephen Butchard, creator, lead writer and executive producer, said: “Following the quite breathtaking response to series one, myself, the cast and our wonderful crew were all determined not to drop the ball and endeavour to deliver an even better series two!
"No spoilers, but I’m hoping this fantastic early commission from the BBC for a third series is an indication that we may have come close to doing just that!
"Many, many thanks to Lindsay Salt, Jo McClellan and all at BBC Drama for their never-ending support.
"And of course, sincere thanks to all who have watched, embraced and spread the word.
"I hope you enjoy series two as much as we enjoyed making it - can’t wait to do it all over again!”
Filming on the third series will take place primarily in Liverpool in 2027, with casting details announced in due course.

When is This City Is Ours series 2 on TV?
This City Is Ours returns to BBC One on Sunday, October 25, at 9pm.
It will air Sunday and Monday nights at 9pm on BBC One, with eight episodes in series 2.
