A WELLINGTON hair salon has been chosen as the winner of a festive window competition.

The competition was hosted by Taunton Deane Borough Council’s marketing and visitor centre team.

Kamyko Hair gained the most ‘likes’ in the competition that was run on Facebook by Visit Taunton, Visit Wellington and Visit Wiveliscombe.

The competition proved popular and the council hopes more shops will take part next year.

Mayor of Taunton Deane, Cllr Hazel Prior-Sankey, congratulated the team on there win.

“It’s a fun way of engaging people and helps to give our retailers and businesses a boost in the run-up to Christmas,” said Mark Edwards, the Borough Council’s executive member for business.

The hair salon’s display sees silver baubles and stars hanging in the window.

More than 200 people chose the display as the winner.

David Struwig, Kamyko Hair, said: “We are thrilled to have won the competition.

“We worked very hard on the display and we hope it inspires other shops to do the same next year.

“Thanks to everyone that voted for us.

“We want to wish everyone a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

“Good luck to everyone that takes part next year.”

The response to the display on the Visit Taunton Facebook page was positive, with more than 40 voters commenting to praise the hair salon’s efforts, no matter what time of year it is.

One voter said: “With or without a special occasion, every time you walk or drive past Kamyko its window displays bring Wellington alive.”
