A CHURCH in Taunton has been left with thousands of pounds worth of damage after vandals smashed windows.

Rev Debbi Turley was shocked when she came in to St Peter's Church in Priorswood on Tuesday morning to find damaged windows and bent lead in the week before Christmas.

Rev Turley said that while it was frustrating that someone could cause such needless damage that cost around £2,000 to repair, she was amazed by the response from the community.

"The support on social media has been fantastic and we had two people come in and help board up the windows on Tuesday," she said.

"This meant we were able to host Selworthy School's Christmas service yesterday. It was a little bit colder than we would have liked but it was a lovely service nonetheless."

Rev Turley says the windows will not be properly fixed until the New Year.
