A CAMPAIGN to get us out of our cars in 2018 has been launched in Taunton.

People are being encouraged to walk, run, cycle, car share of use public transport as part of the Getting Around Taunton Travel Challenge.

Project officer Ruby Tobin, of charity Sustrans, which is delivering the scheme, said the initiative aims to motivate people to make every day changes to the way they travel and exercise.

She added: "Get active this year, leave your car at home and post your journeys on our social media pages to be entered into weekly prize draws for bike lights and free Taunton coffee shop vouchers.

"We’ve been giving out prizes every Friday and still have lots to give away."

She said that choosing alternative ways of getting around Taunton will help reduce traffic in the town and improve the health and wellbeing of the community.

One of the challenge winners, Susannah Hickling, of Diabetes UK, said: "I love the fact that walking around the town is often so much quicker than going by car."

The project also offers cycle confidence sessions for all ages and levels, free bike servicing, and led bike rides and walks.
