Dear Editor,
It was reported in your digital edition that someone claimed that you could save 10 minutes on the journey from the train station to the town centre by walking along the Firepool Boulevard rather than Station Road.
This is complete nonsense.
I walked both routes today and found the journey times are virtually the same.
There is a finger post on the Tone Bridge which provides an estimated time of 12 minutes for walking to the station along Bridge Street and Station Road.
I timed it at 12 minutes 45 seconds.
The extra time can be explained by pausing at two traffic light-controlled pedestrian crossings.
The walk from the station to the same point on the Tone Bridge took 13 minutes 30 seconds.
This included a 30-second pause at one traffic light-controlled crossing.
In reality, this route is slower, and for the foreseeable future, a bleak entrance to the town.
If you are contemplating walking to or from the station, I would suggest you take the Station Road route, which is quicker and could provide trade for the shops and cafes there.
