A SCHOOL has stepped in to ensure a swimming club doesn't have to move out of town.
Wellington Swimming Club will be able to continue to train in the town while the public swimming pool is closed - thanks to a lifeline thrown by Wellington School.
The club meets on Sunday, Tuesday and Friday evenings, but when it was announced the pool at the local sports centre was to close until August for refurbishment, it wasn’t clear where members would go.
Now an agreement has been reached with Wellington School which means the club can continue to meet on the same evenings using the school pool.
“We’re really relieved that we’re able to stay in the town,” said head coach Nicky Emery.
“Its very important that there is somewhere in Wellington where young people can swim.
"We’re even more pleased we’ve been able to keep our training on the same evenings so it's not too disruptive for parents.
"We’d like to thank Wellington School and the Everyone Active sports centre manager Gary Beasley for helping us make the move.”
Wellington Swimming Club is open to young swimmers who can do a length of freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke.
Nicky added: “If you’ve passed level 6 of the Everyone Active Swim School, then you’re probably good enough to join the club.
“We welcome new swimmers who can come for a trial and then do three free sessions to see if they enjoy it.
“There are six levels at the club. Most do three one-hour training sessions each week, with longer sessions for more experienced swimmers.
"It’s a very friendly club with a focus on enjoyment, stroke development and competition for those that want it.”

TUESDAY:
- 7pm-8pm, Bronze, Silver and Gold;

- 6.30pm-7.30pm, Bronze, Silver and Gold;
