THE world is changing; the internet and other technological advances have created a landscape almost unrecognisable to that of 10 or 20 years ago.

And nowhere is this more apparent than in the world of employment and training.

Pathways to employment are constantly evolving, taking people down roads they may never have thought about.

And that is where our new Skills For Life initiative comes in.

Newsquest Somerset - publisher of the County Gazette, Bridgwater Mercury, Chard and Ilminster News and the Burnham and Highbridge Weekly News - in association with the Somerset Chamber of Commerce, is running a new editorial initiative highlighting opportunities now available to people looking for their ideal career, connecting those seeking the opportunities with those who can help provide them.

Our campaign will highlight a number of schemes available to people, including apprenticeships, training and more.

And it will culminate in the Somerset Skills and Apprenticeships Show, being staged at Taunton Rugby Club on March 22.

The show will provide a stage for jobseekers young and old to have a go at a range of work-related skills and speak to employers from across the county and the South West.

Somerset County Gazette:

County Gazette editor, Paul Jones, said: “In a rapidly-changing world, people require a vast range of new skills.

“In order to gain those skills, which could open up a raft of professional and personal opportunities, they need to know how and where they can find them.

“That is what Skills For Life – and the Somerset Skills and Apprenticeships Show – are all about; helping people find a route to the skills they need to pursue their goals.

“We are hugely proud to offer them that opportunity.”

A range of businesses, in every sphere, will be taking part to let people know what they have to offer.
