WITH the weather finally improving, competitive golf has returned to Taunton & Pickeridge.
The first event of the year was the traditional ‘Hangover Trophy’ which offered a few sore heads the chance of a walk in some fresh air.
Scoring was impressive with Mike Nicholls taking the top spot and also securing the first trophy of the year with a 41 point total.
Second place went to Martin Short while Mervyn Roach won division two with a very creditable 39 points.
The following Saturday was a chance for many players to enjoy their first round of 2013, and with all 18 holes fully open the course was in great demand.
A total of 50 players entered the day’s competition which saw Simon Heap beat Mark Popham on countback after both players recorded 39 points.
Division two resulted in a trio of players level on 37 points, with Andy Bird the eventual winner.
Simon Read’s 38 points saw him take the division three prize.
A smaller field took part in Sunday’s “Turn up and Play” Stableford with Stuart Sully’s excellent 39 points sufficient to secure first place. Junior Kobe Adams was runner-up.
