TAUNTON Town saw their unbeaten home record in the Southern League's Division One (S&W) come to an end on Saturday when they lost 3-2 to Burnham.

It looked as if the game was heading for a 2-2 draw before Leone Yarnie struck for the visitors in injury time.

His shot took a wicked deflection and the ball looped over the head of on-coming Taunton keeper Ian Jones and nestled in the back of the net.

It was Yarnie, who proved a dangerous player throughout the afternoon for Taunton, who put Burnham 1-0 up in the sixth minute and then Ryan Bird made it 2-0 to the visitors in the 29th minute.

But Taunton hit back before the interval when the prolific Steve Cook, who is now being watched by a whole host of clubs, netted from the penalty spot - his 15th goal since arriving at Wordsworth Drive in September.

And then Taunton made it 2-2 in the 72nd minute when substitute Sonyo da Mata, who is still struggling with an ankle injury, scored a good goal.

With the game entering its final stages and with Taunton looking the more likely of the two teams to win, it came as a huge disappointment come the end that they finished in defeat and had lost their impressive unbeaten home record.

Taunton boss Gary Domone said he was disappointed with the result - especially at going down 2-0 with little more than 30 minutes gone.

He told the club's official website that some of the defensive mistakes made by his team were schoolboy errors.' And he added: "You cannot give sides a two-goal start every week and expect to get away it."

Domone reported, however, that Taunton full-back Sam Jones, who broke his leg in early October, is making good progress on the road to recovery and could be back in training before the end of the year. "The break is mending nicely," said Domone. "We've definitely missed him in defence."

Domone also admitted that Sonyo da Mata was still not fully fit - despite coming on for the final 20 minutes.

"You could see after only ten minutes that he was struggling with the ankle injury," he said. "There was no way we could have risked playing him throughout."
