Somerset Vase: Martock 7, Wellington 111.

ON the back of Saturday's league victory over Wessex, Wellington made the journey the following day to Martock expecting a result - and a massive victory they duly gained.

Chief coach John Dunbar chose to field a mixed team of regular first team players and those pushing for a first team place.

The line-up proved to be far too strong for the home side which is languishing at the foot of Somerset Division One.

The conditions seemed to be not conducive to a running game with a strong, cold wind blowing from the South West.

Wellington, however, gave warmth to their travelling supporters with some red hot rugby.

As the score suggests the game was a total mismatch with Wellington running in 17 tries with ease.

However, Wellington have struggled or even lost to lower placed sides over the years so this result should be seen as a job well done.

To be fair to Martock, they never let their heads drop and scored a converted try on the final whistle. Steve Beale scored the try with Wayne Lewis converting the extras.

Thirteen of Wellington's tries came from the back line, which ran rampant through the gaps in the shaky Martock defence.

Points scorers are as follows: Tries:Matt Taylor (5), Matt Parsons (2), Robin Trott (2), Mickey Norman (2), Ricki Waygood, Shaun Lang, Richard Porter, Mike Stanyard, Andrew Bellamy, Ted Keeble. Cons: Matt Parsons (9), Matt Taylor (2) and Robin Trott (2).

Wellington will go into the next round knowing that they will be facing a sterner test.
