TAUNTON Deane swimmers continued their fine team performance in the Speedo Premiere Division (Western) Round Two.

With Taunton up against last year's national B final winners the event was going to be a huge task to win and was more about securing second place and sealing a place in the final, the first ever premiere final in its first ever venture into the Premiere Division.

This was also going to be a tough task with both Exeter City and Tigersharks of Swindon in the league match accompanied by West Wilts Force 5 and Tornadoes of South Dorset both of which are area squads.

Massive best times from both Luke Lawrence and Vicky Rayson led to a great start for the club which was backed up by some great relay swims in the first round of relays.

The individual swims were a mixed bag from the club, with some swimmers very tired and performing just short of their best times but digging out good scoring points accompanied by swims such as that from James Prole who absolutely blew out the water his life time best time in the 100Fly to take a great six pts.

Taunton were second from the off and other than one small blip in the middle of the programme that saw the club fall one behind A run of five wins in a row by Vicky Rayson, Binx Locke, Mike Capstick, Libby Mitchell, Simon Cooper saw the club force its way into a commandable second place with events running out to be caught.

A marvellous team performance saw the club secure a comfortable second place against a number of much larger clubs to see it into the final with a dog fight of a chance to finish in the top three in its first ever outing into the league.

For the club to continue this kind of achievement in the future we need the support from all involved in swimming in the area to promote the sport and promote quality skills as well as support from anyone in the area who has an interest in swimming.

RESULT: Plymouth Leander 269, Taunton Deane 196, Tigersharks 177, Exeter 165, West Wilts Force 5 124, Tornadoes South Dorset 116.

The final will be swum in Weston-Super-Mare on December 9 against Taunton Deane; Plymouth Leander; Millfield; Tigersharks; Swindon Dolphins; Ferndown Otters; Bournmouth Dolphins A and the City of Cardiff A squad.
