Taunton banger racer Jamie Thomas will be looking claim the British championship at Smeatharpe Stadium in the Blackdown Hills on Sunday.

Thomas recently captured the Cornish title and now has the right to wear the cross of St Piran on the roof of his number 70 car, when he goes in search of the British title. However, Thomas is set to be one of more than 80 hopefuls competing for the British Championship.

Many local racers are set to feature, including Ben Sealy of Bishops Lydeard and Chris Jeanes of West Hatch.

As many as 40 Formula Two Stock Cars will also be racing at Smeatharpe on Sunday, as they continue their build-up to the World Championship being held at the circuit in September. The race meeting will also feature the Saloon Stock Cars. Among their entry will be world champion Eddie Darby of Heathfield, ‘The Nasty Plumber’ Ian Govier of Taunton and former British Champion Phil Powell of Taunton.

The first event will be the Grand Parade of drivers at 12.45pm, with the first of the 17 races at1pm.
