MINEHEAD start their defence of the Somerset Senior Cup today with an awkward trip to runaway Division One leaders Dundry Athletic.

Alhough the home side lost on Saturday, they had previously notched 19 goals in their previous three games and they remain three points clear at the top of the table.

Minehead will be without the experienced playmaker Simon Lyons who starts a two match ban for a sending off the previous Saturday.

It is believed to be the first time Minehead will have played Dundry in a competitive match.

Minehead Reserves, gained their first league point of the season last Saturday with a fortunate 1-1 draw at Stogursey, Braden Taylor scoring the Blues’ goal.

The previous Wednesday, following on from their 4-1 cup victory, a young Minehead side had beaten Stogursey 5-0 in the Taunton & District League Knock Out Cup. A second half hat-trick from Jayce Haldicott did most of the damage.

Off the field, it has been another positive week for Minehead.

On the heels of the recent message from Sepp Blatter, the club has received 125th anniversary congratulations from UEFA President Michel Platini.

Former France international Platini highlighted the importance of Minehed in the West Somerset area.

He wrote: “Local talent is a vital cornerstone of football at all levels, all across Europe and the world.”
