ELEVEN-year-old Sam Arrowsmith won an impressive five gold medals for Tiverton Swimming Club at the Devon county championships at the Life Centre in Plymouth.

Sam qualified for no less than nine finals and recorded ten person bests in the championships which were held over three weekends.

Tiverton entered a total of 19 swimmers who took part in 82 events and picked up 30 medals.

Other outstanding performers for the club included nine-year-old twins Gemma and Jodie Dilks who were competing in their first championships. Jodie took home two gold and two silver medals while Gemma earned one gold, two silver and two bronze.

In the 14-year-olds girls, Phoebe Campbell picked up three medals and Gemma Owen one.

Twelve-year-old Finn Stoneman won silver medals in the 200 individual medley and 100m butterfly.

Eleven-year-old Jack Aldridge and 13-year -old Oliver Bennet were others competing in their first championships and both made finals.

Jack secured a bronze medal in the 200m breaststroke and secured one regional time. and has several consideration times.

Head coach Dave Clift said: “The target next year is for more swimmers to compete at the ‘counties’ which means we will be encouraging all swimmers to enter meets this year so that they can achieve qualifying times for 2016.”
