Somerset County League Division 1: Backwell Utd Res 0, Taunton Blackbrook 5.

BLACKBROOK moved up to second after winning 5-0 for the second time in four days.

It allowed them to leapfrog Churchill Club who lost 3-0 at home to Worle, while leaders St George drew 0-0 at Nailsea Town who are also in the running for promotion.

Blackbrook were in irresistible form and ran riot in the first half, to lead 4-0 at the break, despite being without Alex Pounde, Mark Andrews and Tom Hartley.

But the hosts almost went in front in the early stages when they hit the post.

But Blackbrook survived and took the lead on nine minutes when Simon Stone went on a run and pulled the ball back for Mike Cahill to score.

Mike Cahill turned provider on 16 minutes, threading the ball through to Scott Graham who slipped a shot under the keeper and Dean Quinn latched on to a poor clearance to set up Stone for the third just before the half hour mark.

The same players combined to make it 4-0 with Quinn finding Stone who scored with a low half-volley from 30 yards.

Backwell hit the bar after the break but that was the last time they were to threaten Wayne Lawrence in the Blackbrook goal.

The visitors sealed victory with 12 minutes left when Matt Cahill scored after a pass from namesake Mike.

This Saturday, Blackbrook take on Tunley at Wordsworth Drive and, next Wednesday, are away to Brislington Reserves.
